DEBRA International attends the 2024 EWMA Conference

The conference took place between 1st and 3rd May 2024 in London, UK, and was attended by 4,995 registered participants from 94 countries.


The EWMA (European Wound Management Association) said the 2024 conference proved to be one of the most successful conferences in the last five years, and that the event showcased a diverse and vibrant gathering of professionals from various backgrounds.


As an international partner of EWMA, DEBRA International was offered a speaking slot, speaker passes, and a booth space at the conference. As well as branded takeaways, the DEBRA International clinical practice guidelines, patient versions, infographics, and other EB information resources were presented at the booth.


DEBRA International were kindly gifted space by URGO Medical to hold a hands on EB wound care workshop run by EB specialist paediatrician Katie Plevey from Great Ormond Street Hospital. The workshop included a demonstration on how to apply and remove dressings without damaging fragile skin on a child, recommended dressings to use, practice of applying the dressing using specialist techniques and lots of questions and answers. The workshop was held on Thursday 2nd May, and received much traction from participants visiting the booth.



The Guest Session offered to DEBRA International took place the next day, Friday 3rd May, called 'Health care in EB - the clinician, patient and advocate perspective'. The speakers were EB specialist nurse Annette Downe and EB specialist paediatrician Katie Plevey, EB patient Christo Kapourani and EB advocate/DEBRA International executive director Liv Mullins. They discussed best practices and future innovations in EB wound care, managing chronic wounds and infections, advocacy efforts. The audience heard directly from EB patient Christo about life with EB in a moving speech, and he took questions from the audience after a panel discussion.
