On February 4, 2025, Rare Diseases International (RDI) officially submitted the #Resolution4Rare for consideration by the World Health Assembly (WHA) Executive Board.
The submission follows three months of intensive negotiations among Member States, highlighting the growing global commitment to prioritizing rare diseases in public health policy.
A key achievement in this effort is the support from governments worldwide. 21 Member States from across all regions have come together to co-sponsor the resolution, including:
🇪🇬 Arab Republic of Egypt | 🇪🇸 Spain | 🇧🇷 Brazil | 🇨🇱 Chile | 🇨🇳 China | 🇪🇨 Ecuador | 🇫🇷 France | 🇮🇶 Iraq | 🇯🇴 Jordan | 🇰🇼 Kuwait | 🇱🇺 Luxembourg | 🇲🇾 Malaysia | 🇵🇦 Panama | 🇵🇸 Palestine | 🇵🇰 Pakistan | 🇵🇭 Philippines | 🇶🇦 Qatar | 🇷🇴 Romania | 🇸🇴 Somalia | 🇻🇺 Vanuatu | 🇮🇳 India
Beyond governmental support, the momentum behind this resolution has been driven by a powerful coalition of over 180 organizations from around the world, working together to advocate for meaningful change. As one of the supporting organizations, we are incredibly proud to be part of this movement.
RDI’s CEO Alexandra Heumber Perry said: “This is a critical moment for the rare disease community worldwide. The formal submission of the Resolution reflects the growing global commitment to addressing the needs of people living with a rare disease. We commend the Member States for their leadership and the rare disease community for their unwavering advocacy.”
What’s Next?
